Harness the power of a journal for mindful, thoughtful, sustainable weight loss

Keeping a journal is an invaluable and powerful tool to boost your health weight loss journey and enhance self-awareness. By putting pen to paper, you create a space to track your progress, emotions, and insights. It’s a way to document and learn from your daily habits as you lose weight. Over time you can use it to hone your strategies for weight loss and accelerate your success. Journalling is a large part of the Eatiful Method. We see it as central to supporting your daily mindful practice and in turn improving your relationship with food and yourself.

Here are 7 ways to harness the power of a weight loss journal, many of these will be part and parcel of the Eatiful app (coming soon):

  1. Know your whys: Understanding your whys for weight loss is a crucial first step in any weight loss journey. Use your journal to explore why you want to lose weight. Be free and open and describe all the reasons WHY you want to lose weight. Spend time on this and hone your whys into 1-3 key whys to guide your weight loss journey. You can use the journal to write and rewrite these whys and even turn them into daily mantras.

  2. Record Your Goals: Start your journal by setting clear and achievable weight loss goals. Write down your aspirations, motivations, and the specific steps you'll take to reach them. This exercise not only clarifies your intentions but also serves as a reference point to remind yourself of your vision.

  3. Track Your Food Intake: Use your journal to log your daily food intake. Some people also use jourals to track calories and macros, although that’s not part of the Eatiful Method. You don’t need to track calories to lose weight, we think it;s better to track food and mood - how does food make you feel? Just the act of tracking what you ate will ensure you are more conscious about your food choices; - which can help boost your self-esteem and help you feel more in control.

  4. Monitor Your Progress: Regularly record your progress over time to acknowledge progress and celebrate success. Progress can include weigh but doesn't have to be weight related. At Eatiful, we believe in setting and working towards non weight goals or ‘Eatiful Goals’ and monitoring progress towards these.

  5. Reflect on Your Emotions: A weight loss journey can evoke various emotions, from excitement to frustration. Use your journal to express your feelings about your progress, challenges, and achievements.

  6. Celebrate Non-Scale Victories: A weight loss journal is an excellent place to celebrate non-scale victories. Non-scale victories can include anything from dropping a dress size, to making a different food choice, or noticing how you feel about your body and health. At Eatiful we focus more on personal, or life goals than weight goals, so we love celebrating non-scale victories.

  7. Learn from Setbacks: When facing setbacks or plateaus, write about them in your journal. Use these moments as opportunities to analyze what might have contributed to the setback and explore ways to overcome challenges in the future.

A weight loss journal is a powerful companion throughout your journey. It provides insights, keeps you accountable, and helps you stay motivated. Embrace the process of journaling, as it can be a transformative practice that enhances your self-awareness and contributes to your long-term success in achieving your weight loss goals.
